The Midi-Pyrénées consist of the regions Lot, Tarn, Tran-et-Graonne, Gers, Haute-Garonne, Hautes-Pyrenees and Ariege. In spite of the area’s largeness, they still form one unit. The centuries old pilgrim route winds through all regions to the Spanish Santiago de la Compostella. From the north, from the east and from the west the Midi-Pyrénées were namely the last stage of the pilgrim route, for which the inaccessible Pyrénées had to be conquered. Must-sees in the surrounding area are: Rocamadour, Conques with the abbey Sainte Foy, Toulouse with the largest Romanesque church of the world. In the northern part of this region nature is mainly characterised through green landscapes, sloping hills and natural dissipations, like in the hills of Aveyron or Gorges du Tarn. In the southern part the beginning of the Pyrénées is situated. Here, the landscape changes to a calm mountain area with waterfalls and immense rockery parts. The climate of the Midi-Pyrénées has the best of all seasons, a lot of sun and warmth in the summer and mild winters with an average temperature of 9 degrees celcius. In short, even in low season this region is the ideal holiday destination!
